Unusual Lake Discovered in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park

An expedition team from Jungle Boss Trekking Tours in Vietnam recently made an exciting discovery in the core area of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, located in central Quang Binh province. The team found a lake with unexpected depth and cold water near the entrance of Thung Cave.

During a return trip in July to Lo Lung Lake, which had been discovered earlier in May, the explorers stumbled upon this new lake, situated about 1 kilometer from the ‘hanging’ lake. The lake’s entrance is modest, only about 10 meters wide, surrounded by mud and earth, with crystal-clear, calm blue water.

What makes the lake especially unusual is its depth and temperature. Measuring nearly 18 meters deep, the water remains a cool 16 degrees Celsius, which is quite surprising given its location. The explorers speculate that this lake might be connected to an underground cave system within Thung Cave, potentially leading to a large cavern at a deeper level. However, this is only a preliminary theory, and further investigation with specialized equipment is needed to confirm the lake’s connection to other subterranean features.

This discovery adds another layer of intrigue to the already fascinating Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, known for its extensive cave systems and breathtaking natural beauty. Further explorations are eagerly awaited to uncover the full mystery of this hidden lake and its possible links to undiscovered caves beneath the park.
