The Emirates has recently introduced the next generation of highly advanced unmanned maritime craft called the “Kronos,” featuring a revolutionary design. These sleek, ray-shaped submarines are set to redefine naval operations and underwater reconnaissance capabilities at the NAVDEX naval exhibition, unveiling the craft’s cutting-edge features.
The Kronos comes in two distinct variants, each with its own unique purpose. One variant, termed the “Dynamic Dive at High Speed,” is designed for stealthy, high-speed underwater operations. The other, the “More Conventional Approach,” includes conventional submarines for various roles, such as reconnaissance and surveillance. These submarines offer unmatched versatility in naval operations.
The Kronos boasts exceptional dimensions, measuring 9.03 meters in length, 7.43 meters in width, and 2.09 meters in height, housing up to 11 personnel, including the pilot. Equipped with 360° night-vision cameras, a sonar system, six lightweight torpedoes, and a lock-out chamber, the Kronos is tailored to cater to a wide range of missions, from defense operations to combat support.
With a top speed of 43 knots and an electric motor for silent submerged travel, it is adaptable for a variety of scenarios, including rapid deployment at depths of up to 100 meters, and with a list of 250 meters during critical maneuvers. The Kronos is designed for endurance, with battery capacity sufficient for up to 18 hours of continuous operation.
