The trailer features Prey star Amber Midthunder as Pocahontas and Elvis star Austin Butler as John Smith. It even includes a new rendition of the iconic song “Colors of the Wind” and suggests a 2025 release date.
However, this trailer has been confirmed as fake, using footage from other movies like Prey and employing deepfake technology to create a convincing illusion.

Will Disney Make a Live-Action Pocahontas Remake?

Longtime Disney composer Alan Menken, speaking at a promotional event (via Digital Spy), addressed the challenges of remaking Pocahontas. He expressed doubt about the feasibility of such a project given modern sensibilities and the potential for controversy:
“I don’t know if we’ll ever be able to do Pocahontas,” Menken said, highlighting the difficulty of avoiding offense with the story’s sensitive themes. He described the original film as a “clunky attempt at watered-down corporate inclusivity” that overlooks the harsher aspects of Native history in favor of a feel-good narrative.
Given these complications and the sensitive nature of the Pocahontas story, a live-action remake seems unlikely at this time.
