The petite mother poses with her tall twin daughters, surprising viewers.
Alexis LaRue, a new mother from Minneapolis-Saint Paul in Minnesota, USA, has received an unexpected reaction after sharing a video of herself with her twin girls online. The video went viral, leaving viewers stunned at the size of the babies.
Before getting pregnant, Alexis weighed 49 kilograms and stood at 5 feet 3 inches tall. However, by 38 weeks into her pregnancy, her weight had increased to 82 kilograms. In March, she gave birth to her twins, Camila and Elena, who weighed 6 pounds 7 ounces each. Now, at seven months old, the twins weigh a remarkable 21 pounds each, having tripled their birth weight.
Alexis shared, “They seem to really enjoy trying new foods. Whenever I’m eating something, they always stare at me as if they’re waiting for me to give them some.” Alexis and her fiancé Leo Mejia, 23, were thrilled when they learned she was pregnant at 21.
“My lifelong ambition was to be a mother, so I was overjoyed when it became a reality,” she expressed. “During my first ultrasound at six weeks, we saw two small sacs on the screen. Not having any twins in our families, I was completely shocked but also excited.”
In the twin community, it is common to expect babies to be around 5 pounds or less, so Alexis was surprised by her babies’ size. She mentioned, “When I posted that video, I didn’t think much of it. I actually didn’t think my babies were that big until I started reading all the comments.”
Some viewers made astonished comments, such as “Those are eight-year-olds” and “they would be higher than you if they stood on top of each other.” Alexis has even faced accusations of editing the videos or using filters to make the twins appear larger, but she denies this.
Alexis clarified, “The perspective of some of the videos exaggerates their size significantly. I actually posted a video not too long ago, weighing and measuring the babies so people could get an idea of how big they actually are. I also receive accusations of overfeeding them, but it is very difficult to overfeed a baby.”
She explained that her babies are in the upper percentiles for weight and height and that they grow quickly, requiring frequent clothes purchases. Despite their fame on the video-sharing app, Camila and Elena are thriving, achieving their milestones, and being healthy and happy.
Alexis concluded, “If there’s one thing I want everyone to know, it’s to remember that all babies are different. They all grow at a different pace, and mine happen to be growing very quickly. They are healthy, happy, and full of personality. Always remember to be kind.”
